Although the log cabin is a popular symbol of an idealized pioneer past, early settlers saw them as temporary dwellings, which branded the occupants as poor and unsophisticated. | |||
Log cabins were abandoned or more likely converted to other uses as soon as a family could build a stone or brick house. Log structures served as washhouse, summer kitchens or quarters for hired hands. Our replica has both typical and unusual features. The overhanging roof is common in the Pennsylvania German tradition. The external chimney is more common in Southern log houses but indicates that this is a building more suitable for use in warm weather. This miniature measures 3"x3"x4". Price $30 |
